Does the router signal strength gets weaker over the years?

Not in my experience. Then again, the longest I've had a router has been 3 years, so it's certainly not that long. How old is the router in question?

Seems odd that it would lose broadcasting power over that span of time, but unfortunately I'm no expert, can only give my personal experiences. Mine still worked out to all areas of my house over that three year time span, never lost any distance or signal strength. Hope someone else can come in and give you a better answer
