I always thought that running the ram higher than the CPU FSB was a waste and not really helpful.

My FSB is 450 and ram is running 1:1. If I go to 4:5 and have my ram running at 562.5 will that speed up my system for games and other stuff?

Yes, 4:5 will increase performance, but you probably won't even notice it in real-world use.
