The compony I work for sells phone systems, and we are looking to expand into a new Linux-bassed system. My boss has some old computer stuff sitting in his basement that he wants to turn into a test system. However, he doesnt have a CPU. I want to know what to recomend for him to get, as he doesnt know much about hardware (his phlisophy when it comes to hardware is to get what ever is highlighted as "Dell recomended"). When I asked him what he needed, CPU-wise, he said he needed somthing that was good with floating-point calculations. Now, I have no idea what would make a CPU good at floating-point calculations, so could you please help me out here? It needs to be s478.

Your best bet would be a 3.0 Presott like mine. I am pretty sure the P4 Prescott is the best of the 478 lineup, better than the Celeron Prescotts too, but the Celerons OC like mad, but I don't know how much you want to do that. a 2.8C Northwood would also be a good choice if you can find one.

3.0E Prescott on the Egg
