Alright OCN so I've been playing around and tweaking my 7970 so much and I just can't get it to break 1125/1575mhz @ 1.200v VDDC and 1.600v MVDDC no matter what. I've tried it with ULPS on and ULPS off. I'm using the /xcl method (official method) with the latest version of MSI AB (3.0.0 beta) and anything above 1125/1575 will pass 3DMark 11, 3DMark, and Heaven 4.0 without artifacting but as soon as I put it to the test in a game say Skyrim it will artifact on me like the card is dying. Graphical glitches all over, occasional screen flashing, game freezing etc. So what I'm asking is, is what causes this? Is my chip really just limited to 1125mhz or is there something I'm doing wrong? Any help would be much obliged.

P.S. - I've even tried flashing separated Bios's with ATIWinFlash to no avail. The card always locks up so I'm sticking with both Bios's stock for now.

I have used Trixx and it didnt seem to offer any benefits so I switched back to AB.

You're probably doing it wrong.

1125 isnt a bad core clock btw.

Read my sig thread on how to do AMD stuffs. There's a new AB that automates a few steps, but I would follow the guide so you understand how it works, what's happening, and how to do it. Once you have it working then upgrade to the newest AB if you want.

"with the latest version of MSI AB (3.0.0 beta) and anything above 1125/1575"

If by break you mean set past, Trixx will let you set it past that amount, that's about the only benefit you'll have

Hey Tsm! I've used your thread to learn about my AMD parts! I used to it set-up the /xcl method with AB so I guess I'll have another look at it...

No I don't mean set past... I mean anything above those clock settings my card becomes un-stable no matter what I try!

yeah that happens man

not every cards read the same speeds, its like processors, some reach higher speeds than others.

Ah I see. I was just reaching for the 1200/1600 mark and I guess this card just cant quite make it. That's the silicon lottery for you.

It's actually somewhat difficult to hit 1200 on air. You need good cooling to keep the core temps below 70c. Tahiti's overclocking capability is temperature limited, so the cooler you can get the card, the higher it will overclock.

Huh that's interesting. I had heard that but I didn't think it factored in as much as Kepler's temperature constraints. I think the highest temps. I've ever seen this gpu reach when on the 1200/1600 mark was between 68-73c.
