I was trying to find out if a pci sata controller and a sata hard drive would be worth the extra investment over a ide hard drive. I also would like to know how to install these things when doing a fresh windows install on the sata hard drive, with one complication. I run a compaq machine and i dont get the screen asking me to install raid or other drivers with my windows.

its better to just get a plain IDE haddrive cuz pci controllers can be slow, and increase boot times, and cant even run the SATA at the 150mb/s because the whole pci bus is limited to 133mb/s for ALL pci slots...so if u have pci ethernet or modem then it will be even slower resulting in CRAPPY performance....so just get a ide...its not worth the extra money for slower speeds..dont bother with SATA unless ure mobo supports it
