SATA drive question

my friends ATA133 died, so im gunna go get him a new drive. i was wondering if his motherboard supports a SATA drive, its a K8MC51G. which i found out it can. but its an Emachines computer, so, well its been a LONG time since ive had to mess with drives, and does the power supply have to be a certain type or not?

No should be fine. They sell molex to sata power adapters, as long as the mobo has sata ports youll be ok.

Huh?

If the motherboard has a SATA connector, it supports at least SATA 1.5GB/s. All HDs are backwards compatible so will work.

For the power, check if the PSU has a SATA power port. If not, use the adapter I linked.

That board looks like it has 2 sata connectors.

ya, i know they are backwards compatible. it i was thinking of getting him a SATA2 drive cuz it supports SATA2. but when the SATA2 drives first came out, i heard they had bugs and souldnt be used to run OSes off of. so, have they fixed the bugs in sata2?

I run my os off my sata2 drive without a hiccup. Will work perfectley.

As long as you have XP SP2, you should be fine.
