Well... I have a 120GB maxtor... its SATA, its LOUD, DRIVES ME NUTS (see my other thead on more about this)...

My friend borrowed me his 160GB Segate Baracuda, its IDE, its SILENT, you dont even know it on.

He said... Hey wanna switch?

I said I'll think about it.

Now, the big question is...
Keep the Loud (nut driving) SATA?
Drop the SATA for the silent IDE?

The Segate is.. 160GB... so it IS bigger capacity, but the technology is older. I honestly don't see a difference between speeds in IDE vs. SATA... Its what? 2% faster than the IDE?

Any advice would be useful.

Basically.. the difference between sata and ata-133/100, is the max BURST speed. overall the sata might be a little faster, but there is not much of a difference, so go with what you like.

if the noise is driving you nuts, and that little speed from SATA doesnt matter to you, then make that switch. the 40gb probably seals the deal. You could just get a small SATA drive later for your OS.

You might want to put in consideration backing up all your data and how you would go about doing that

Ehh, plug 2 drives in.. transfer everything (files) from my maxtor to the seagate?
I'm still debating wether or not to get rid of it.. I kinda wanted a raid 0 array in the near future... ehhh so hard to choose..
