I am going today to buy my new 2500k. On my current system I have my scythe mugen 2. I don't know if it is a rev b or not. Is there anyway i can check so if it is not I can buy a new cpu cooler.

check your box and back plate. green box is rev b

EDIT: and why buy a new CPU cooler the first rev. is a monster. not much was changed on the rev. b. they both perform around the same i beilieve.

Compare the backplates, if you remember which one you have:

Because only the rev b has 1156/1155 support.

Did you ever figure out which one it was? If it was a rev.1 try emailing scythe and see if they can send you a new backplate + tools. I know noctua does it if a new socket is released. Worth a try and might save you some $$$

Dang not rev B. I think I will go out and buy the parts today and just put on the stock cooler. Then will try emailing scythe. If taht doesnt work i will go out and buy a hyper 212+ or maybe something a little more expensive.

I like my hyper but I wish I had spent a bit more so I could get to 4
