Scythe Slipstream 1200/1900RPM - quick question

858 Views 17 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Killhouse
Hey guys,

I'm about to buy 5 Scythe Slipstreams for my new case (see acrylic link in sig). I had planned to get 1200RPMs since I liked their CFM/dBA ratio but now I've managed to incorporate a controller to switch from 12V to 7V. Would it be better to go for 1900RPM? I'm hoping they're less than 20 dBA at 7V.

Price is a non-issue, exactly the same price for both.

Quick rep for a quick answer but I don't need a page-long essay

Cheers.

Your design doesn't warrant the high-speed model, so the 1200RPM one will be sufficient; however I'd use the S-Flex E instead, it'll last longer and sound better when undervolted.

Thanks, +rep.

I geuss it's between the Scythe Slipstreams and the S-flexes then. Is it going to be worth the extra £2.50 per fan though?

There are so many fans out there, so hard to chose xD
Yeah, it'll be worth it. I have the highest-end S-Flex, the "G", and it's just plain terrific.

Oh hey again Shadowclock. Having 2nd thoughts about the S-flexes, they seem pretty expensive (especially when I need 5 of them).

Preferably buying from:
http://www.aquatuning.co.uk/index.php
or
http://specialtech.co.uk

Need 5 case fans and 1 Rad fan. Originally I was going with a Noctua NF-P12 and 5 slipstreams. Now thinking again and again about both of those choices.

[edit: looking at yate loons here]

I'm err-ing on the side of quietness than performance. Maybe thinking a gentle typhoon on the rad.

who ever said fans were easy to choose!

SlipStreams don't have good static pressure where as the Gentle Typhoon you mentioned does. At the bare minimum I would go with something different on the rad.

The slipstreams were going on the case - High CFM, low pressure. And the Noctua/Typhoon on the rad (a small rad!).

Yate Loons are a great alternative especially from Aquatuning as Petra and them both have the best Yate Loons. Get the Medium speed if you don't have a fan controller. Chunky will attest to getting the Yates for case fans I am sure.

Alright, I think I'll go for Yates Loons for the case fans then (much better price!). I have a controller to flick between 12V and 7V, so maybe the highspeed one isnt a bad choice?

If you have a fan controller for it then go for the high speed if you wanna bench or go for some stress testing.

I'm going to stick with the 1650 RPMs I think. No need for any higher. I'm torn between the s-flex, gentle typhoonout of stock and NF-P12 for the rad fan.

Or a 38mm instead of a push/pull setup, but the really good ones seem to be quite loud.

Put the San Ace 1011 on 7v and you should be happy.

Alas, not available from specialtech, aquatuning or kustompc - the only stores I can consider right now. I'm swaying towards the s-flex 1600RPM, I'll control it from the CPU header on the mobo.

Was a UK site and one that I know member have ordered from so I figured you were good to go on that. The S-flex will suit your needs fine as well.

Cooler Master R4's (Shadowclock *wink*) are nice, pushes a lot of air, 2000rpm, decent static pressure but it's rated at 19db but its actually around 28-30db full speed. You should check it out
And oh yeah, comes in colors too.
