Creative Assembly communications director Kieran Brigden has confirmed that the first major patch for Empire: Total War is scheduled to be released next week.

"We fully intend to support Empire consistently post-release," said Brigden on the official Total War forums. "Therefore I can confirm that we are currently working on a patch that will be automatically rolled out via Steam, sometime next week."
The patch will fix a gameplay bug related to trade routes and improve upon the game's stability and performance, which has been criticized by fans following the game's Tuesday release.

"There is a patch schedule that means regular patches will be appearing after this point," added Brigden.

The game works just fine for me. Although sometimes it random does a loading screen in the middle of a battle. But it comes right back just fine, just is a bit annoying.

Glad I did, releasing unfinished games, AGAIN.
This isn't an unfinished game. Works great for me, works great for a ton of people. There are a few bugs though and they are taking care of them.

What kind of bugs and issues? I was considering picking it up but may wait.

The game is very playable but somewhat buggy. Bugs are mostly related to movements on battlefield (naval and land). The campaign map is pretty much glitch free except that it runs slower than it should. Several AI glitches related to negotiation (allies won't accept my proposition to open trade route, not even with a pile of cash, even though it's clearly in their interest)
