Valve today confirmed that its cooperative zombie shooter Left 4 Dead, due November 18, will be the first game to pack support for its free Steam Cloud technology, which automatically stores game settings online.

The initial release of Steam Cloud will store keyboard, mouse, and gamepad configurations, along with multiplayer settings such as spraypaint images, on Steam, allowing gamers to easily play with their settings on any Steam-connected PC.

The initial release of Steam Cloud will not archive saved games, Valve confirmed with Shacknews, though the promised functionality "is coming."

Along with Left 4 Dead's Steam Cloud implementation, Valve will apply the technology to its back catalog of Steam games and provide the free Steam Cloud toolset to all Steam developers and publishers for widespread implementation.

"Steam Cloud is a natural extension of the portability Steam affords gamers and developers, and we intend to expand its feature set as it is used in Left 4 Dead and other games coming to Steam," noted Valve president Gabe Newell.

Btw, is L4D supposed to be similar to Natural Selection but with zombies?

Steam does work in Linux

And so does CS: S. TF2 and HL2 as well, but i am not going to hotlink them... it's just for TF2 at least performance is dismal, so i was quite annoyed to find that out - imo it's not worth jumping ship from windows if i want to play TF2 and other titles.

It has a few game modes, but people are mostly excited about the 4-player co-op v.s zombies

Natural Selection is awesome though, and they are still working on Natural Selection 2
(2 and not source, as they are making their own engine for it

seriously....everything and anything i have seen about this game.....i just cant wait...im going to need to find me 3 other people to play with when this game hits. God i jsut cant wait its going to be epic and Steam adding this new Steam Cloud is even more win. I persoanlly like Steam alot. I just hate that sometimes it screws up with Vista but thats about it.

I dont care that steam makes you pay for the games. I have always thought that if the game is good, and they release a demo for it then i will always fork up the money for it. Steam has showed me time and time again, that what they offer = win

He means he wishes it ran natively through linux, not through wine.

i cant remember the last time Valve has disappointed, the goos just keep coming.

actually, i dont think they've ever disappointed. hands down they are the best game developer on the market. in the developer sense, not just that they make the best games.
