Games for Windows Live will become a full-fledged distribution platform for full games from December 15 with the addition of 'Games on Demand', Microsoft has announced.
if MS can polish this to the calibre of Xbox Live, this could prove good competition to Steam, D2D, and the likes... unless they charge a subscription on top of having us pay for the titles...

I'll stay in valves boat. Interesting nonetheless.
This is great. Steam and D2D are already going at it, D2D has had a bunch of sales in the past few months. With another competitor entering the ring, it's gonna mean even lower prices and bigger sales.
Basically, MS is saying "bawww, you guys can't do that"
If 360's had bigger hardrives this would probably explode. But on the PC end I dont see it providing much competition for Steam.
I doubt anyone will use this.

Games for Windows Live barely even works. Its bad enough when you get a game and find out that you're going to have to struggle with the service. I don't think would willingly embrace it.
So long as they don't start limiting down retail games and basically making them worthless after install, I'll support it.

Don't forget Impulse, which IMO seems like a much better system that D2D. I think the competition really comes down to Impulse and Steam (and I guess soon GWL). Although I really wish Steam would use a DRM system like Impulse (each game have a unique ID tied to the .exe) as I wish I didn't need to run Steam all the time.

Glad to see more competition to keep steam honest and on it's toes, but man there is no online service out there I hate more than Games For Windows Live. Almost ruined Fallout3 for me.
It's funny how the 360 not only got this service in August, but also got 24 games. While this just launched with 2 games.

you'll support GFWL over steam?

wow.

we are talking about the 'Monopoly Money' GFWL that forces you to buy fake money to download DLC, and also bugs out at every opportunity. at least with steam, you can reinstall the game without the discs...

Id rather use steam BUT if MS starts doing this and actually make it good, steam and D2D are kinda screwed because MS = Behemoth.
I like xbox live but hate the fact you can't just use normal money and when you buy something there is always a few points left over which makes the game more expensive.
M$ is 'like' "WOW, are you seeing how much money Steam is bring in from digital distribution? We got to get on that"!
I think the only way people will switch is if all the games get cross-platform support. I want to kick some Xbox 360 users a** in some COD6.

That's basically been their MO from the get go...copy and/or buyout what others have already done and make money off of it. (No hate, big fan of Win7, just is what it is for the most part)

If they go the quick and dirty feature-less route, without improving on what's already out there, it will most likely flop.

Steam and D2D already fill their niches perfectly. I wonder what/how MS plans to improve, if anything?

You and me both.

I don't see what's so hard about doing it since MW2 has the same files on both platforms. My friend always talks about how he owned these guys in CoD4 the night before and i've always wanted to show him the dominance of PC. If only we could play 360 vs PC.

As much as you and many other on here seem to forget, Steam and D2D already have plenty of competition with retail chains and having MS enter DD won't lower prices 1 cent.

The occasional sale, maybe.

BTW, GFWL sucks hardcore. I had to use it for DD when i bought Fallout 3's DLC. No self respecting adult is going to use that system. You have to buy points so you can buy the game.

Extra transactions and steps + play money + forcing me to buy more points than i need for the game = FAIL
