Shimmering in-game

Hey all, quite a complex problem so bare with me!

I bought a 4870 1GB and Dell S2309W monitor at Xmas, but was getting loads of shimmering in FS9 - I tweaked every setting I could both in-game and through ATT but to no avail - I presumed I either had a dodgy card or the drivers were pretty poor.

I returned the 4870 and got a cheaper 9800GTX+ SSC, but was unhappy to see the shimmering still there!

I've already seeked advice on my Flight Sim forum, and have tried dozens of different nHancer settings, but sadly the problem still exists.

I've also tried different VGA/DVI cables, but it still happens.

I have tested Burnout: Paradise and CSS and do experience some shimmering in those as well, so I can rule out it being an issue with FS2004.

I've searched for weeks on the internet, but have only found stuff to do with FSX DX10 mode and shimmering issues back in 06/07 before many found out about nHancer etc.

I'm completely out of ideas - I have an Enermax 600W Noisetaker, but from what I could tell I do have enough going ampage going through the 12V rail.

Could the monitor be causing this shimmering?

Cheers

EDIT: Here's a video I made to try and show what I'm experiencing, it's harder to see since it's been compressed, but you can download the original video in the bottom-right corner..

The shimmering/flickering can be seen on buildings and things like the lamp posts and jetways.

I think your eyes must have a problem with your monitor's refresh rate or something bizzare. There is no shimmering or flickering on that video lol. It looks perfect

I don't notice anything in the video either which means that it's most likely you monitor. Do you have another monitor you can hook up and see if you still get shimmering?

I downloaded the video... I think I see what you are talking about. If it is what I think you are trying to show us then that is just an effect of aliasing. Most I can suggest is just play at a higher res and higher AA. You may not notice it in the other games because they have bloom/HDR.
Cheers for the replies guys

I'm glad someone can see it, got pretty worried about my eyesight for a second there!

From what you've all said it's looking more like a problem with the monitor, I'm borrowing a 17" LCD tomorrow to test with, i'll let you know how I get on.

If it does turn out to be the monitor, do you reckon it's actually a fault, or just a bad feature of the S2309W? I must admit I've not found anyone on the internet with the same problem as me with any similar Dell models, so I guess we'll see!
