I'd reccomend the 7900GT around then, 7800GT's not being produced anymore, and will soon be out of stock.

If you're going to Vista, get a DX10 card, if you're staying with XP, grab the 7900GT.

The way I see it is, you are never going to be able to have the top line stuff, because something new is ALWAYS coming out. The difference between going from a 5200 to a 7800GT will be amazing. But, I gurantee that you won't notice the difference between 7800GT and DX10 GFX...

Yes wait till the 7900GT comes out, it will be around the same price, or even cheaper, and will be a WHOLE lot better.....trust me you will regret it if you but the 7800GT

And the 7900 GT/GTX will NOT be DX10, the G80 chip will be the first DX10 card....

^^Nope. The G80 cards will be, but the G71 (7900) will be DX9. The 7900GT is basicly a rebadged 7800GTX with 90nm processing.

is there going to be a justifiable difference between a 7800 and a 7900? or just the fact that the 7800 will be extinct? I only ask cuz I was planning on going SLi in the near future with another 7800GT.

The 7900GT will be slightly better than the 7800GTX, and cost a little bit more than the 7800GT currently does. I'd say in the $350 range.

Well it will be better, but it will be fairly better than the 7800gt, but the 7800gt is awsome but from what i hear the 7900GT will be a little less maybe $275....but you never know..

It's pretty much the same card, the vanilla 7800GTX is 430MHz, where the vanilla 7900GT is going to be 450MHz, it's the same core as the 7800GTX so essentially it's the same card just OC'd a little bit.

Top of the line 7900GT's will be about 480-500MHz, but expect the majority to be around 460MHz, but you can easily overclock it to reach the top-end speeds.

I wouldn't expect prices to drop too much, but you will see GTX prices fall considerably for the stock that is left, maybe 7800GT prices, just to get rid of them.

I say get a 7800GTX when the 7900GT's come out since they are the same card just under a different name and will be priced much lower

Well they are 2 differnet GPUs but graphiccs wise, yes they are on par if not a little better than the xbox.

I think my GT handles graphics better than a xbox 360, but its not just the GPU, it's the rest of the system as well.

You can OC the GTX, that's why I'm saying to get a GTX rather than a 7900GT or 7800GT (if there are any left) because it's the ame card but much cheaper

but i think i might get a job during the summer holidays and buy a 7800 and a new dfi-sli and a new psu . i currently have a 430w psu with 20a on the 12v rail it cost me $17.50 /£10 will i be able to run a 7800gtx on it
and if not i want as cheap a a one as possable im thinking of a 550w thermal take seems a nice price and looks fine

The question is do you have patience or not. Obviously the answer would be the Dx10 but do you need a good card right now?
