Should I buy a new top for my pump?

For some reason I'm interested in purchasing a new top for my MCP-655 B. I'm thinking about buying the Detroit Thermo top for, but I'm not sure if I should or not. My loop is pretty much in my sig. I'm going to be taking the loop apart today or tomorrow to add the video card and it'd be a great opportunity to make any other changes if I were going to do any.

If you haven't read Skinnee's excellent pump top comparison go read it here

I just got a DetroitAC top myself, however I can't tell you how good it is because I don't have the system built yet
The only slight disadvantage, compared with the EK top for example, is that the EK top allows some flexibility in the position of the nozzle fittings (at a minor cost to performance).

The other advantage (and additional expense) with any of these is you can fit your own choice of barbs or compression fittings. However note that the 'low-profile' Koolance compression nozzles have a very short thread that is far too shallow to engage properly with the screw thread in the DetroitAC top (I found this out the hard way).

I'm sure that I'd be happier, that's part of the reasoning behind buying one. I'm a compulsive buyer and there is nothing better than instant gratification. When ever a box comes in the mail with my name on it, I get happy.

I have been giving it thought for a while now. I really don't want to spend anymore money on my pc for a while, but for some reason I feel the need to. Since I don't have the room internally, for a new rad, I think that the top would be a nice addition to the loop.

As it is, I had two extra barbs and I had to use them on my gpu block. Then yesterday I ordered some MX-2, since I ran out, and ordered two more barbs "just in case" I might need them.

Someone on XS opened their 655 up and ported it and cleaned up all the square edges with a dremel. Got ~20% improvement. Might be the cheaper route.

It was martin who did this and it wasn't 20% or anywhere close to this.
EK and Detroit Thermo's top use a spiral shaped volute, which cannot be done with a dremel lol.

I am going to pickup a top this week.

Take a look at Martins flow estimator..Flow Rate Estimator Spreadsheet V1.7 Theres a option for his ported top, just figure it with a stock D-5, then again with the ported one to see the improvement in flow. He has a thread here somewhere on how he did it to.

Just being able to use my own fittings/barbs on the pump made my investment of the detroit thermo pump top well worth it. I say go for it.
