I'm really debating what i should do i had my eyes on the 670 ftw for about two months and now I'm at the point were I'm not sure if I should buy the card now or just buy the cheap 660 and wait for the new cards to come out in the next couple of months, Any suggestions is welcomed cause that's really the main piece my rig is missing, besides my new monitor that i;m gonna buy on black Friday which is a 1920x1200p NEC monitor because i like the quality over all the other ones that are priced lower...

I would either buy the 7950 or the 660TI. Plenty of horse power for around the same price. No need to go higher than that for just a single 1080p monitor.

For that matter Im using a 7850 as my hold over card and its also plenty for my 1920x1200 monitor.

grab a GTX 670 FTW LE for USD 390. comes with borderlands 2.

if you are not interested in the game get the gigabyte GTX 670 for 360 after promo code HARDOCPX912G, ends 9/18

The GTX 680 will sell as the next gen GTX 760 Ti for USD 300 . but thats still 6 months away when the GTX 780 launches. GTX 670 is 3 - 5% slower than GTX 680 at the same clocks. so its just not worth waiting for 5 - 6 months to get a card which costs USD 60 - 90 less. You would be enjoying gaming on the GTX 670 right away. With major titles lined up like Medal of Honor Warfighter , Call of Duty Black Ops 2, Farcry 3 don't bother to wait for GTX 700 series. for 1920 x 1200 a GTX 670 is more than enough.

I was much the same when I upgraded last month. But thought bugger it, I'll pull the trigger now. I got a very cheap ex demo 7970 which is absolute overkill for gaming on my 1920 x 1080 TV.
Maxing out everything for the first time is pretty fun though.

I agree with dihartnell and Schnitter, the 7950 is great bang for buck now and overclocks quite well too. Either that or a cheap GTX 670 will be more than enough. If you must have the latest and greatest, when the time comes you can sell it and upgrade. In the mean time you get your money's worth doing what we love doing best, gaming!

The HD 8970 will launch mostly in Jan 2013. AMD will push for the bigger chip because they can easily defeat GTX 680 and keep the price at USD 550 till GTX 780 launches. then they will cut it to USD 450 or 400 depending on how the GTX 770 / GTX 780 perform and are priced. HD 8870 is most likely to launch next in Feb. If you are looking for GTX 680 performance at USD 300 you can already get that with a HD 7950 OC. Buy a HD 7950 OC like Sapphire HD 7950 950 Mhz edition and push it to 1.15 Ghz speeds.

here is a HD 7950 OC(1.2 Ghz) performing better than GTX 670 (1.3 Ghz)

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/08/23/galaxy_gtx_660_ti_gc_oc_vs_670_hd_7950/2

the choice you need to make is do you want a graphics card now or in late Q1 2013. personally I don't see any card with better value than a HD 7950 OC.

A GTX 660 is a much, much better deal at only $230 (or $240 for one that has a factory OC). I use a single GTX 660 for triple monitor gaming and it work great (3 x 1680 x 1050).

The OP should buy a GTX 660 and use the money he saved on games or other things in his life.

if you are willing to wait, get a used card off the marketplace(couple 560ti cards at $150 or a 470) and wait for the next series. Those cards will play pretty much everything, not on highest settings, but I wouldn't spend the extra on a new card right now if you are thinking of upgrading in a few months. Just my 2 cents. You should be able to get most of your money back when you buy your new one and sell it off.

Honestly I am not expecting to see the kind of performance jump between this generation and the next, like we did with the last gen and current. I would pleasantly surprised if it turns out to be such a leap, but I am thinking it will be more akin to Sandy Bridge to Ivy Bridge than (Gulftown?) to SNB.

The EVGA GTX670 FTW is an awesome card from perhaps the best Nvidia card manufacturer, and you can always add more as prices drop. I don't expect to upgrade until a single GPU can perform similarly to three 670s. But by that time, I will be changing the CPU and MB to whatever the SBE equivalent is.
