Should I Pick Up This Pixel For $700?

Hey guys, I have a buddy at work that has a Chromebook Pixel he is trying to get rid of, and he said he could sell it to me for $700.

It's in like new condition, and I am very tempted.

However, I could pick up a 2011 or 2012 Macbook Air for that price too, as I am searching for something thin and light to carry around campus with me.

I already have a desktop, so it's not like this would be my main computer. I am just tempted to try the chromebook. I have also never had a chromebook before.

No. The Chromebook Pixel isn't remotely worth even $700. Yeah, it has a great screen, but it has incredibly crap innards, and the cloud based OS means you are going to have to be tethered to a wifi connection to even use it.

Save your money and buy an actual ultrabook/macbook air/macbook retina. All of those will be much better value for your money. And leave him to sell that Chromebook to someone gullible, unlike you (since you took the time to ask over on OCN).

+REP Yeah I agree since laptops are also getting better screens as of late and macbooks would be good if you must have that screen but for everything else agree any thing else would be better.

Thanks for your inputs guys.

I know that I can get a much more capable computer for $700, but I already have my desktop, and my Thinkpad T420.

Basically I need something to take notes with, and just always carry with me.

The main draw for me is the beautiful screen and the build of the machine itself.

Just pick up an ultrabook off of Ebay. You should be able to get a decent machine for around $500-700 easily. And you'll be able to enjoy the very slim form factor, which makes it perfect for taking notes with.

Heck, you might be able to score a solid deal in your price range on a retina MBP if you really want such a screen. The main problem with the Pixel is you are essentially tethered to the internet if you actually want to do something.
