Should I RMA this 13900KS ?

My SP is only 105. Will Intel take it back ?

I am just kidding.

However, does this mean much as far as my OC'ing abilities ? Just thinking about it before i start spending a lot of time tuning (learning to) it.

Based on my understanding from what I have learned here in the forum is that the lower SP the lower the capability to overclock the chip. Most people are always shopping for 110-120+ and I can't answer whether or not you are wasting your time with that CPU. I would say play with it and see how far you can take it tunning the CPU, memory, power, etc... There is only one way to find out, and that is by trying. ;)

seen K versions with better SP than that. Send it back

You're suggesting the OP commits fraud? I doubt you are, but the only way to return it would be to claim it was faulty... which it isn't, it just doesn't have a great SP rating. ;)

I'd just play with it and not worry too much. :)

so you're ok with Intel selling KS chips that are clearly poorly binned?
Would give it a shot. If it won't play....you have some options.
what do you mean.. "give it a shot" ?

If it's stable at stock speeds, then Intel hasn't done anything wrong.

I'm thinking @tps3443 current KS is a 104 and posted a video running it on Apex. He's had better, but seems content with results. He's on chiller...your cooler score indicates some awesome cooling as well.

Just water loop. can SP change when i go direct die ?

Think not, but performance-wise, very likely better on yours with loop/DD than my SP 110 (120/92) on 360 AIO.

Return to try another one yes. RMA no because the cpu is not faulty.
What v/f curve look like? Might be low ecore but not bad p core causing a lower sp score.

P-Core SP 113
E-Core SP 89
It looks like BH might let me exchange it. What are the chances it could be worse ?
I think all 13900KS chips are good. I have tested (3) KS on direct die. I have tested (2) SP117 and (1) SP104. The SP117 chips are the ELITE samples. We’re talking like SP126-SP129 P-Cores. And SP95-SP103 E-Cores, these are stellar examples. However, even with that being said. They are only a little better than my “below average” SP104 KS chip. A little better as in about -0.025MV to -0.055MV at the same P-Core frequencies, while simultaneously being able to run +100 to +200 faster on the E-Cores. This made me extremely content with my SP104 13900KS.

KS chips are binned totally differently than a normal K and I can 100% feel that when overclocking one. My chip can run very high clocks even with ambient water. They manage heat better, and maintain stability so much easier. Now, this is all being said assuming you have a KS on direct die. Because, the stock IHS and solder is absolutely hot garbage!

Intel isn’t really focused on SP rating with these. They’re checking something else with the silicon when they are binned. And any KS is just fantastic once placed on Direct die cooling.

Forget about SP! Delid, direct die, and overclock it!! KS rules.

thanks for your insight. good to hear from your experience
