sure AMD can push 6.5ghz under a constant flow of liquid helium but when it comes to real world performance with a system that doesn't cost $500 dollars a day to cool AMD loses...
the i7 replaced my opteron... and even with only air the overclock blows the competition away...
If you feel you need an upgrade, feel that your system can't handle something you use right now (In this case, you probably encode stuff a lot), then by all means go upgrade.
Buy the best processor for what you will use it for both brands have good points AMD is cheap but the i7 the definitly the better processor especially if you do any video encoding

Execept for gaming. He has a [email protected] 3.8 so he won't see that much of a improvement certainly not enough to justify the cost of a new system.
