Should I trade my card ?

I recently bought a HIS 4670 512mb card for $65 on newegg. I'm now selling my mobo, q6600 and 8gb of ram to a friend. He also wanted this card and when I went to buy it they now have the 1gb version for $65 and were out of the 512mb now. He says I can have the 1gb card and he will take my 512 if I want, since he cant pay me for putting his computer together. So basically my card has a 780 core clock and 2000 memory clock. The 1gb has a 750 core clock and 1700 memory clock. So on the same card is it better to have more memory but slower clock speeds, or less memory with higher clock speeds? I also like the 2 dvi ports on my 512 since I use 2 monitors. The 1gb card has 1 dvi and a d-sub so I would have to use an adapter, which isnt a big deal, but would rather not. Thanks!

It's better to have 1GB than 512MB of RAM, even if it's slightly slower.

2000/1700=85%, not to mention that you can clock it higher.

Personaly, i would change it for 1GB version

So he is paying fo rthe 65$ card in turn for the build fee's?

If so just take the 65$ and get yourself an upgrade GPU wise...4$'s or so would get you a nice boost in performance

No, he needed a card and I bought him the 1gb. Neither of us play very graphic intensive games, but the games we've tried on my 4670 512mb ran really good on high settings. I was just telling him after I bought it, i wish mine was 1gb, lol and he said I can take that one and he will use the 512, since the games he plays runs great on it. Down the road I'm sure we'll both get higher end cards when money permits. For now, these are good upgrades from my x1950pro and his AGP something 6 year old AMD machine. So no more money outta pocket, I just need to choose the 1gb or 512mb. My only hangup was that my card had higher clock speeds, 2 dvis and s-video out.

To fix the clock speeds, you can always overclock

The DVI and S-Video, buy an adapter is the only solution I guess.

I have an adapter, not a big deal....but nicer not having to use one.....sticks out kinda far. Anyone know if any picture / performance quality is lost using an adapter?

The 1GB version will barely be any faster as the 512mb version.
There's just something about having a 1gb card. I think I would feel cooler, lol

You will...i did going from 896MB to 1GB

Don't worry about the core or memory clocks since you can always just overclock the !GB card....as for the image quality question i would have to say it wouldn't be noticeable if you are using the right adapters/cables

Cool. I think I will trade with him. Then I can go into my system specs on here and change it from 512mb to 1gb
. Oh ya. Well I'm thinkin it will be even cooler when i change my q6600 to an i7 860 and my g. skill ram up to 1600mhz
.

Agreed, although I would try to get a new GPU all together.

Someday. But this is a nice step up from my x1950pro 256mb. All the games I play run fine on high settings. So I'm happy. Just wanted to know which was better between the 2 even though I know every one else has higher end cards

Just got the 1gb today. I installed it to see if I could tell a difference. The only thing I've done so far is run the windows 7 experience index score. My 512mb scored a 6.8 on graphics and gaming graphics. The new 1gb model scored less with a 6.7 on both. Whats up with that? What bench mark program could I run on windows 7 to see which scores higher? And even if it doesn't matter and there's no way I could tell a difference, I'd still like to keep the one that scored higher.

You went from an Nvidia card to an ATI card, I don't undertand why that makes sense to you.

The Experience Index Score means nothing, absolutely nothing.

Just for the hell of it, I tried 3D Mark Vantage on the 2 cards.

4670 1GB = 2927 graphics & 11077 cpu

4670 512MB = 3151 graphics & 11039 cpu

So what does this mean? I figured the 1gb model would have a higher graphics score. Guess the faster core clock and memory clock on my 512 means more on benchmarking? Anyways think I'm gonna keep my 512mb version because it has the dual DVI inputs for my 2 monitors, unlike the 1gb model with 1 DVI & 1 VGA.
