i have a e8400 at 4.0 on 1.376 load. should i trade it for a q6600 G0 1.25 vid. I would love to have a quad core at 4.0 ghz. i have custom watercooling so heat isnt a issue.

if you are SURE youll get 4ghz, why not? youll have the same clock speed and 2 more cores.

That means nothing if he has a bad chip.

1.3v for 3.2 is ok. A Q6600 that reaches 4GHz needs to get 3.6GHz at 1.3v.

I think that the highest that this Q6600 is going to reach is 3.7GHz

I had the exact same debate before, and did end up trading my E8400 for a Q6600. I was willing to sacrifice a few hundred mhz for 2 more cores.

Absolutely yes!
Your choice. But im going to tell you this. 1/200 Q6600s can go to 4.0 with 1.55v

VID is a good point.

I'm just trying to help him make the right decision. I'm afraid that you are going to trade the chip and only be able to get it to 3.6GHz.
Some guy is selling a 4ghz chip on the forum, maybe you should ask him some questions. (although I see you are asking about a trade and may need rep to buy)

1.2vid q6600 $180 shipped (4ghz)

Well, how long do you plan to keep it?

Yea but at 3.6 the quad is going to dominate the 8400 in any mutli threaded app. Also you are gonna have a hard time multitasking the Quad to full load.

IMO I would say go for it. I just swapped out my 8400 and it ran at 3.9ghz and I am running my quad at 3.33ghz right now (its a b3) and I am happier with the quad. Yes PI is not as fast and its a bigger heat issue but left4dead has no issues now where as with the dual core it was fully loading it whiile in games. Im at 50% on the quad.

q6600 only if u are multitasking monster

otherwise the e8400 is good enough and isn't worth trading

bah, live in the now. There will always be the next great update. Just get what you need now, and start using it, instead of suffering now.
