I want to upgrade my GPU. Should I do it right now or should I wait?

I'm looking at the Radeon HD 6950 as my first choice. My budget is around $300.

A. Wait for more 7000 series cards to be released or 600 series.
or
B. Buy the 6950 and be happy with it.
or
C. Buy a used 5970 for under $300 like me.

Your choice

What game do you play the most? If your 5770 give you decent perf in it, keep it and wait for the next gen card.

I'm waiting for the 7xxx series but I'm not sure how the cards around my budget would compare to the 6950.

It would be awesome if a price drop happened though.

You should definitely wait. The next AMD cards will be here any day now, and price drops on their last gen cards could be here with them. Nvidia also has some new cards coming out supposedly in Q2 of this year. If you can stand to wait I think you would be very happy.

They almost always will be better performance/price ratios. You will also see a huge influx of used cards in the marketplace when the 7000s start coming out more and more. A price drop is inevitable.

I play BF3 a lot. I get decent perf on High but I want to play in Ultra.

5970 runs it at 1080P at ultra with even some AA/AF on

EDIT: I actually maxed it all the way out and was clearing 90FPS, but I was getting some stuttering and dips. Turning off motion blur might cure that, but I like the effect, lol.

You should defenitly wait if that's the main reason you want to upgrade because the difference between high and ultra is almost not noticeable IMO. And like the other said, price drop is inevitable when the nex gen come out. Just my 2 cents

So I'll just wait then. Thanks for the replies.

That's a ridiculous deal. Here in the Philippines a used 5970 still sells for $500 .

I'll upgrade before March ends that's for sure. I just want the best deal for my money

Ah, I see the issue now. Maybe see if someone in the marketplace on here will ship to the Philippines and then re-sell it for profit

Maybe. But I think a Crossfire setup will be bottlenecked by my Phenom II anyway. So I'd better stick with a single card setup for now.
