I've heard that Q2 of this year will yield some new stuff from AMD
I'm not going for those high end parts, rather, I was wondering if it'd be a better time to save on some of the current gen parts (7850/7950)

Or is anytime really a good time to buy?

First quarter of the year (Jan-March) is when business is slowest and there is pressure to drop prices to sell products.
So your currently seeing some of the lowest prices of the year.

AMD has said that nothing GPU related will be coming out until, possibly, Q3. I would say now is the time to buy, you can get a 7950 for around $300-330 or a 7970 for around $400-450 (Found on newegg.com). A lot of the AMD cards come with two free games, the 7900 series comes with Crysis 3 and Bioshock Infinite, so that is $120 worth of games on top of a huge savings on the GPU.

What is your budget?

Are you building it for gaming?

Will you Overclock?

I made this thread earlier this week with a potential build.
My budget is anything less than $700, preferably something within the $650 price range.
I'm building it mostly for school/productivity but there will be some light gaming from time to time. Mostly looking for something that'll last a couple of years.
At this point I am not planning on overclocking.

Are you going to be using any software that can take advantage of an 8-core cpu?
Otherwise get the FX-6300 6-core.

Powersupply wise, i would say yo get at least a 550 watt powersupply.

The Asrock 970 Extreme 4 is on sale at Newegg.

I looked through the other thread and did not know which one to reply on, so I picked this one. Haha.

I agree about switching to the M5A97 MoBo, I have had much better luck with ASUS and I am currently using that board in my rig with a 7850. Works like a charm, maxes out nearly everything I throw at it. I usually just set everything to high to see what happens and it runs like a champ.[All games at max except Far Cry 3] SWTOR, Tera, Far Cry 3 (very high w/ 2xAA), DIablo, Civ5, Metro 2033, Sim City Beta(with full shadow effects). None of those games, with the exception of Far Cry, are too demanding for my 7850 at 1050/1450. I also think that the 8320 is overkill. Save yourself the money and get the FX-6300 and throw some money at a partially modular power supply (around 600W) for easier cable management and it also helps with air flow, or, a better heat sink for that CPU just to keep it cool. You will want to at least hit the "turbo" button for your CPU to get more oomph out of it and stock coolers are just loud and fairly weak from my experience. Just get a 212 EVO for 30 bucks and you're set.
