That would be great. Id be interested to see the shots of front and back to see how you would get tidy cabling in a case like this.

I'd love to see some screenshots too, could get some good ideas for cable mgmt in these kinds of cases.

No problem. I hope we can get more people with this series of cases to join in on the discussion. It is interesting to see what others have done. I wonder if at Computex they showed off a GD09 or not?

If I had the funds and means to make my own case, I have some crazy HTPC ideas. The GD08 is about as close as perfect you can get for a HTGPC imo and with a few changes the case would be top notch. I sent a PM to Silverstone on these forums about a week ago, but he never responded so my thoughts have gone to the wind.

SilverstoneTek showed a prototype of the Raven mITX case. Might work out to be pretty good.

Here are some updated pics, I added the HX750 today after returning the Thermaltake I had a few days ago. The HX750 is a longer PSU and you can see how it fits in this case.

That Raven mitx case looks pretty cool. I wonder how the video card slot works in this thing. It just seems like odd how its placed on top of everything. Really cool how you can fit a water cooler in there too.

I think it was using a riser board for the PCIe slot so the GPU can site flat over the top of teh mobo

I noticed a lot of new Smaller cases were shown of at Computex. Going to be a lot more options in this space I think.

This is awesome since it brings some competition to a niche market. the Corsair Air 540 reminds me of the HAF XB.

I know, I was thinking the same. If I were to ever get that 540, I would actually sit it up like the HAF XB which is what this case looks like it should be.

SilverStone confirmed that the GD09 is under development but a different design. That will be interesting to see what is done.

90% of the hot air vents into the right section of my computer cabinet.

temps are good, 6 noctua fans throughout.

ya cable management is a bit tough, but it just adds to the challenge of fitting a healthy rig into something smaller than a dishwasher

my psu is the next thing i upgrade. i have my eyes on seasonic with ribbon cables.

would love to see some more gd08 additions here.

Hey gordo, no problem. Do you mind posting some of the pics you have in the GD08 on Tom's Hardware forums? These examples we keep posting of mods could help others that are interested.

I think a PSU with ribbon cables would be very nice addition there.

Saw this on another thread here at OCN from a year ago, someone got a H100 in the GD07. Only thing is that he lost his 2 exhaust fans by going this route, but its another alternative.

Well, I caved in and just ordered the GD-08 to replace my GD-06. With summer and temperature rising in the house, things were just too hot for my peace of mind in the case. Hopefully, the GD-08 will help that...
Cheers!

Smart move you'll like it a lot vs. the GD06. Did you get it from Newegg?

No, I had a $100 Amazon gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket so....that's where I went. Can't wait to receive it!

Hey guys, I have a Grandia (the one w/ one optical drive slot). I am planning on helping a buddy with his build and need some help/suggestions.

This is what I have in the cart so far:
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=20075371

I am worried about a few things:
1) GPU fitment in the case (do I have to mod it like OP did?)
2) GPU heat inside case
3) Should I swap for nvidia? I'm not a huge fan of ATI CCC software...
4) Should I go air instead of the H60? I don't feel comfortable not securing two screws on the mobo.

Thanks!

No, I had a $100 Amazon gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket so....that's where I went. Can't wait to receive it!

Not bad, that sounds like an even better deal. Post some pics of transferring your system when you have a chance.

Quote:

Thanks!

For the GPU, I didn't have to mod anything as you should be able to fit a card up to 13.5 inches. My card, the GTX770 I have is 10.5 inches in length. The XFX your friend has picked out is 9.5 inches long. Make sure you install the card first then place the drive cage back in place. Personally, I would go with the new GTX760 which is a pretty silent from reviews and is around $249. The 760 just came out this week and is the successor to the 660 Ti. What's your buddies budget and what is he looking to do with the video card, you can maybe go with something cheaper too like the 650Ti Boost if your looking to get under $200 for a card.

With a AMD card, you will get more heat in the case. I had the 7970 in my case for a few days to test out and it got hot, but it wasn't anything to be concerned about. If you use the front fans to intake air, add 2 80mm fans for an exhaust and use the 2 fans on the side you will have a lot of positive air flow.

I had no issue with not securing the 2 screws to the motherboard. I've had this build now for about 4 weeks and just 2 screws missing was not a big deal and the mother board doesn't move around. The H60 is a great cooler, it has lowered my temps on the i5 2500K to about 29 degrees when idle. When I get some money, I am considering actually getting a dual 80mm RAD and run my own loop from the rear 80mm slot in the rear for the CPU. I kind of want my optical drive slot back, so I will go custom cooling soon.

You might want to bypass the water cooling since I just looked over your setup again, you will have to lose the optical drive if you do what I did with my case. The ASRock mobo you have, is pretty similar to my ASRock on that right side that it will be a very tight squeeze.
