My bios is listing my RAM at 1237Mhz but they are rated for 1600Mhz. (I would like to ensure they are running at proper speeds etc.. I dont plan to OC them, just the CPU)

Can I simply change the RAM freq. setting and all is well... or do I need to change voltage and such?

I am also planning on OCing my AMD 1090T CPU. If I do so will that effect the RAM settings or is that something seperate?

In your BIOS you should set all settings manually. Find the screens which allow you to:

*Set RAM speed - (Mhz) 1066,1333,1600,1866 - Select the proper speed your sticks are rated for.
*On the same screen there should be a voltage for your DRAM - type it in manually according to what's listed on the sticks (usually 1.5~1.65, 1.8 for some older DDR3 chips).
*Find the screen where you can change the timings, usually a notation that reads 7-7-7-21 or 8-8-8-24 or 9-9-9-27 (etc). These relate to: CL-tRCD-tRP-tRAS

Thanks, that's actually some awesome info.
I am going to check that out when I get home from work.

So will these setting ever need changing after this even if I OC my CPU?

your memory timings will not change but when you increase your bus speed on your board youll notice that the memory will increase or decrease in size

So say your at 1600 MHz even at 200FSB
But when you raise your FSB to say 250 youll notice that the 1600 Will increase to maybe 1720 or so..(dont know the actual formula to calculate it)
but when that happens you can drop your memory to the next lowest setting...

Oh but because you have 1090t you can just set your memory timings and frequency manually raise the volts to what ever its rated...
then use your unlocked multiplier to increase CPU speed...

just make sure you save the profile if something happens

Oh and another tip...

Your HT link should be somewhere between 2000-2400
And your CPU-NB should be set to 3000 or lower
This will help the memory controllers to just get the most you can..
its stable specially if your just going with rated frequency
the 1090t can hit really high numbers with proper cooling..you can easily get 4 GHz on air

Everything will remain 'as-is' unless you change the 'HTT' frequency (commonly known as base clock, front side bus {FSB, not in use any more}).

For AMD the HTT is standard at 200Mhz. Increasing this frequency will overclock everything tied to this. That's the CPU, DRAM, CPU/NB, HT Link, and essentially every other subsystem tied in.

There is another frequency for the PCI-E lanes known as PCI frequency which is standard at 100Mhz. This should never be changed in general, unless you're into extreme overclocking.

The way to keep your DRAM at the speeds (not timing, but frequency) you have them at when overclocking is by overclocking using your CPU multiplier which is unlocked on Black Edition (your chip is a black edition) and FX processors.

How it works is CPU multiplier times HTT equals CPU clock speed. That equates to something like this: 16x200=3200Mhz (or multi of 16 times HTT base of 200 equals 3.2Ghz).
