Slackware download help

562 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  chemicalfan
I want to download Slackware 12.2, but following the links on the website take me to a mirror site, where the download is like 7.5Gb!! Is there a more minimal download (like, single CD iso size) that I can then build on? I'd imagine that 7.5Gb has got a load of crud that I don't need in it!

Slackware is usually released as a DVD along with individual disc images that spread out across a number of cd's.

Hmm, maybe I'm wrong with Slackware - I thought it was supposed to be streamlined and customisable? If Ubuntu can fit on a CD, how come Slackware can't?
I think slackware distributes a lot of stuff you can choose to install or not on-disc. If you want something slim to try out, customisable and the like, check out Arch.

Because Slackware comes with a lot more core software.

Slackware's aim is to be as unix-like as possible. Ubuntu's aim IMHO to be one of the "Windows" of Linux.

Hmm, I think I'll leave Slackware for now. I don't see any personal advantages in pursuing it at present. Thanks for your help all
