yesterday I had a post about my aunts computer messing up, and how it could not find anything (there were NO directories going too any of the files.
so today I got a winxp pro cd and for some reason, when i get too the point of installation when it asks if you agree too the end user agreement it wont do anything, it says too accept press F8 and too decline press escape. so i am trying somthing new since i cant open them from there own hard drive, does anyone know if i hook up the "bad" hard drive too the computer i am on now, as a slave, will i be able too get files off of that hdd?and also how do you make a startup go into safe mode on purpose? thanks people.

if you slave it you will be able to take off "some files" but not all and im not sure about safe mood

school work would be included in "some files" right? I have like alot of essays on that hard drive, but when i tried hooking it up too this computer as a slave, it wouldnt start it said that there was no drive to boot from.

yea you'll be able to get those files off jjust make sure it boots from your good Hard drive

even though i have the "bad" hard drive hooked up as a slave and my Good hdd hooked up as a master, it still says there is no drive too boot from. could it be the jumpers in the back of the hdd? I dontknow how too set them too slave and master. does it matter?

jmc I am out in Mexico, NY!! Bring the damn thing over an I'll get the data off it for you! I am good at data recovery. I have an IDE to USB adapter just for this purpose. Let me know.

And yes, it does matter. It's usually stated on the drives how to set for master and slave. THe bad drive should be slave.
