Well they don't come with video cards, and one didn't come with my asus p8p67-m pro..so am I right taking the hint that they are not needed any more especially on newer motherboards?

Oh and Fry's, Microcenter, and even newegg doesn't sell them.

Yes they are needed. They should come with every motherboard/GPU.

In very early stages of Crossfire/SLi they weren't needed (Nvida 6800 Ultra time)

Almost every ATX size, enthusiast board comes with one, as do most cards that can use them. Since you got an M board perhaps the assume people aren't going to sli on the small form factor boards... but I'm not sure.

Because they're clever. A micro-atx board with SLi bridge? it only has two slots as well. No SLi bridge = keep costs down for people who just want a home theater build / non-powerful build. Normally all enthusiast boards / upper-mainstream boards come with up to Quad-SLi and 2-3 Crossfire Links

Pretty weak by Asus if you ask me. They know you need an sli bridge to use that function on their board, and the consensus on google is that nvidia cards don't come with sli bridges any more...so it would seem that motherboards that are sli capable should include them.

I shouldn't have to buy one separately. I bought two new video cards for $120 each, and a new motherboard for $150, and not one of them come with an sli bridge? Doesn't seem right.
