Are you referring to the EK sli bridges? No you don't need them. Simply connecting the cards by barbs and tubing will work too. Just watch your spacing.
Just some barbs, clamps and hoses.. I had to use them because the bottom card is a 260 and it didn't line up to good with the 480's, Just a 1/8" off. So I couldn't use the SLI connectors..
See my build log, pictures on the first page. I have 2 GTX 480s with water cooling and no SLI connectors, just a hose that goes from one to the other. Do it like mine, it will REALLY help with flexibility (you won't have to take out BOTH cards every time and it makes installation/tear down so much easier).
