Alright so my friend has 150$ to bestbuy and needs to buy RAM he has a GT 240 already and i suggested he bought another one to SLI using the remaining 70$ to buy RAM. Can you SLI 240s and also do they need to be the same brand?

As far as I know they don't need to be the same brand, and yes, you can SLi them. Make sure they have the same amount of memory on each though.

Honestly, I feel this is a waste of cash. He's better off saving up a little more to buy something that will absolutely crush two 240s.

Edit:
So I see he's stuck with gift cards. I'm not sure if this works, but he could try buying something and then just return it for cash. He'll have to be careful of what he picks since Best Buy has the most stipulations I've ever seen.

You're not going to get much of a performance boost by SLI-ing them. These cards are old and weak. By SLI-ing them, he's investing more money into obsolete technology, won't get much out of it, and will not get much by selling them in the future.

According to Nvidia's specs the card isn't SLI enabled anyway:

Even if it could be though, that would be a complete waste. Those cards are weaker than high end 8/9 series cards.

IMO, put the gift cards towards this instead!

^This is the first time I've seen a decently priced GPU from Best Buy tbh. I'd jump on it if I were him
