SLI-Ready(EPP) RAM and the 680i.

Does anyone use a 680i with sli ready ram?

ive been looking to buy some new RAM but im not sure if SLI Ready Ram is the way to go. Ive read that the 680i likes to burn sticks with high volatge and all these SLI ready sticks are 2.0v+, Though these are all like 2 year old articles/posts.

My 780i doesn't use SLI Ready RAM, and I've certainly not had any problems with it.
Ive read SLI-Ready ram is just a marketing ploy, but i cant find a straight answere anywhere.

Correct.

SLI Ready RAM consists of just two features:
1) EPP: Enhanced Performance Profiles which overclock the RAM with presets
2) Certified with NVIDIA chipsets.

Neither are that important and definitely are not required. The issue with RAM voltage occurs more at 2.2-2.4v or greater.
SLI-Ready RAM is a marketing ploy to get you to buy marketed up RAM. There really is no difference between it an regular RAM. It uses EPP, which the majority of RAM uses (my Reaper HPC has EPP, and it is not SLI-Ready RAM).
Here is some nice low voltage, high performance memory:
G-Skill 8800 1.8-1.9v

The #1 downfall I see with enabling the field is the fact that it sets your CPU FSB to default while setting the ram to EPP settings. Which is pointless. Who would rather OC their ram vs OCing their CPU?

What ever your purchase, just manually set the EPP settings in BIOS.

kick ass. cant wait to get these. I was considering some Crucial sticks at lower speed with higher voltage than these for about the same price. Thanks!

Yeah, those 2x2Gb G.Skill 1100 Pi are great. Mine OC to 1165 on 1.84v vdimm. you cant go wrong with them! I'm sure an NVIDIA chipset can push them even further.

I used to use the 2Gb set of SLI ready ram on my 680i but I'm switching to a 4Gb set of G skill Pi's soon.
