slower dsl connection

This is my speed test. I am supposed to be at:

• Incoming: 5472 kbps
• Outgoing: 704 kbps

...says the modem. The ATT site says,
Downstream Speed: Up to 6.0 Mbps
Upstream Speed: Up to 768 Kbps.

I don't know whats up with it. I suppose i can call ATT tomorrow but does anyone else have this problem?

have you tried using http://speakeasy.net/speedtest
I generally get more accurate results when using their test.
Also don't know if dsl is the same as cable but if it is you
may be able to get some insight into a possible solution by
accessing teh modem through http. You will have to know
the brand and model to find the access url.
If it is similar to cable you will se some details on your connection quality
which you can search for their names and see what is good and what is not.
most modems/routers use 192.168.1.1 for access.

Last Result:
Download Speed: 2524 kbps (315.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 644 kbps (80.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

And i did get to the modem, all i have to type is /home and it takes me to it. Im just going to call them tomorrow, I never really checked the speed before because i never had issues in games or downloading, it could have been like this even before when I changed apartments and I just never knew.

This is very typical of ATT dsl service that is "up to" what ever they tell you.

I had the same experience, and is why I am back using cable.

Here's what I get with AT&T. Comcast could NEVER come close to that for the price I'm paying. And it's way more consistent.

The problem causes:
- overheating (24/7 in use)
- incorrected settings (all options are not entered right)
- some bugs at hoster (try to reset)

So I figured out we are kind of out of the range. We were in it before but when we moved and switched our service we ended up being out of the att required amount of feet or whatever for DSL. She said it would still work out of that range, but it may affect download speed. Well doesnt really bother me as long as it isnt terribly slow which it isnt. Thanks for the replies.
