SMP help!

hi guys!
so i want to fold SMP with my q6600 but:
i dont want to have that dos windows on my desktop
i want to fold 80% cpu
but i dont know how
i tried once ... got it working ... but i had that dos windows and no matter what i did .. it only used 20% of my q66... i went to advanced options selected 80 cpu usage didnt work ... and if i closed the dos windows, it stopped folding...
so what do i have to do? i would like a PPD increase since SMP is better and will use 80% compared to my 3 copy pasted clients using 75%
help will be much appreciated

You just have to minimize the SMP client(the dos window).

I believe when you configure it, you can state that you want it to use 80%.

Make sure you add the -smp flag, the guide is in the essentials thread.

I can help you via teamviewer if you would like.

yeah but if i minimize it ... it still stays on my taskbar

i tried setting it to use 80% but it didnt work ...

i am pretty sure i can get it to work now since i didnt added -smp to the target shortcut

now it all remains to how to not have that dos window on my desktop or on my taskbar (if i cant remove it i wong go SMP ... im a freak about these things ... it has to be perfect or it wont happen lol kinda like OCD
)

edit: this is a ss of my desktop .. i guess you understand why i dont want to have it all the time on my taskbar ..

There should be an option that says something like 'start as a service?' (can't remember though) Say yes to that and then every time you start the computer the client will start in the background and you won't ever see it.

EDIT: Here's how to set it up as a service. MPICH client or Deino client.
There are 2 things I haven't tried myself, but you could give them a shot. Because you don't want it on the taskbar, you could give these a shot.

(1) When configuring, say yes when asked if you want to run as a service

(2) There was a program or something, others have used. The program was called "trayit" I believe. I will look into that for you.
ok i have a problem
ive did everything ... but it still uses only 20% of my cpu .. which indicates 1 core usage only instead of all 4
so i created a shortcut on my desktop and added (space bar)-smp to target directory and didnt work?? wth? this is what i got:

how do i add smp then? and if i selected it to run as a service then it wont even use the shortcut which contains the -smp addon

What that means is that you don't have the client fully configured to run as a service yet. You need to change the option that says this to yes.

Code:

Code:
Launch automatically, install as a service in this directory (yes/no) [no]?
EDIT: You can change the options by adding the -config flag to the shortcut.
Just a question question, did you download the MPICH one. I am guessing this is on your sig rig and the Vista 64 the Deino MPI one will not work.
im really angry now!!
i just dont understand WHY the F wont it work?
:swearing:

i clearly written C:\\FAH .... and it just wont work .. someone please tell me WHAT is it that i do wrong ...

i have to say .... im a COMPLETE noob when it comes to CMD lol
thx r+

edit: next step .. next problem ...
now that i managed to get into FAH directory ... i ran install.bat, hit enter for account, typed a password twice( if i didnt type any password it says it cant manage jobs using credentials with a blank password) and then, this is the problem .. it says
Password encrypted into the Registry.
Credentials for T-800\\Victor rejected connecting to T-800
Aborting: Unable to connect to T-800
Press any key to continue . . .

what am i doing wrong now?

edit2: it says enter the Windows user password in the installation guide ... WHAT password?! i dont got a password ...

You need to have a login password for Windows in order for it to work correctly. You can add one by going into User Accounts via the Control Panel.

Have you tried a restart since the installation?
Just follow this guide http://folding.stanford.edu/English/WinSMPGuideMPICH and make sure you dl the right client. I had problems for a while but that guide helped. http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandeg...-SMP-mpich.exe is the client I used :/.
