I'm looking at some "reveiws" and apparently 5850's at high settings doesn't do well.

I have 1 running right now, and my settings are as maxed as they can get (with 1920x1080p) and I run 60fps steady (with vsync).

So do I have some magical graphics card?

its true. you can buy a 580 and get great performance. but at half the price two used 6850s or 5870s in xfire stomp all over them(and scale upwards of 90%)

I can max it out around 40-50 FPS at 1600x1200. Interesting..

On metro on auto settings which is high on all but one i average about 55fps and the game is smooths as butter. I never dip below about 40 and hit about 75 max.

this is something else i dont understand, 30-40fps by most review sites is the "playable" side of things... if its not going to run as fluid as a console then whats the point? am i right? i think the standard should be changed, video cards should more represent price/performance instead of an additional $100 for 5-10 fps extra

5870s in the UK can be had for ~£150 or thereabouts. And a GTX 580 costs ~£350.

Whats more, a single 5870 is almost as fast as a single 6970 in BF3 (techspot review). Pretty neat.

Yup, everyone overlooks the previous generation of hardware.

You can get graded 1gb 5870s off videocardshop for £113 with ocn discount...bargain for raw gpu grunt.

Playing around with quite a few of the settings are the frames never really changed that much. Not enough to notice. I'm going to see what it's like once the game is out and see if it's any more optimized.

We haven't seen what kind of tessellation or driver/game optimizations will come once it goes retail.

There really is no way to judge anything at this point, enjoy the beta for what it is.

edit: come to think of it, its been some time since ive seen a 5870 on the market.
I was thinking 2gb 5870s anyway, you might be able to find 2 1gb 5870s for cheap

And you can find a two 6870s for less than $250?

Otherwise, quite a ignorant statement and bad advice. Ever consider the positive aspects of a single GPU setup? (heat, space, using older/newer titles that do NOT support cfx very well... CS:S)

Even scalability of such titles are far and few in between.

Metro i get 35-50 Outside and 60-70 inside. This is with everything to Max only 0AA @ 2560*1440. The game runs nicely. CF give double the fps but got of lot for screen tearing. Play Caspian and then everything goes wrong in every possible way. Metro is misleading map to judge BF3 with your system.

a little over a week ago you could get a 6870 for $150 off of newegg. and you dont think you could find one used for $25 cheaper. and i know the positive aspects of single gpu, the point was price/performance ratio.

Wrong again.

Despite having a powerful GPU w/uber shaders and bro-tastic clock speeds, gaming at 1080p w/ 1GBVRAM for newer titles is not enough and will limit AA lvls.

Courtesy of Riou's thread.

Shogun 2 takes 2GB+ of [email protected], not even considering other titles like BF2 ranging from 1.2-1.5GB. Also, this stems from the fact that ANY sandbox type of game, like shogun 2/TW is going to be a resource hog.

Why even suggest GPUs(<1GB range) in a price/performance ratio that wont provide the FPS in upcoming titles?
