So I got an iPhone

And I don't know anything.

So basically I want app's, Free ones (not jailbreaking, just free), Now, how do I go about this? I don't have a credit card and neither do my parents, don't I need one to get apps? :/

Is jailbreaking frowned upon? like from you guys? I know it is by apple

Also, how do I take a picture from the web and make it my "backdrop" on the phone?

Thanks!

Jailbreaking is probably the only reason why I would want a iPhone

You can get a few free applications from iTunes.

jailbreaking will void your warranty. You do not need a credit card to get apps you just need an itunes account. download itunes, install it, setup an account and boom your done!

You have to save the pictures to your phone then use those pictures as your backdrop

I, like many others, mod to unleash the full potential of a device.

When on the App Store you should be able to search for free apps. You can also use iTunes and set an account up without a credit card by following these instructions provided by Apple themselves.

Not sure about your first few questions. I don't frown upon it though.

Tap and hold on the picture -> Save image -> Find the saved image in your photos and set as Wallpaper.

thanks for the help fellas!

Question, can someone point me to the best jailbreaking source? I've heard of people iPhones not turning on at all after jailbreaking. Since I just bought it I probably won't jailbreak for a few months just to make sure there isn't any hardware defects :]

Great idea! Let it run for a few months, see how it goes. You don't want your iPhone to clunk out on you at the worst time possible. Apple CAN find out if you have ever jailbroken your iPhone even if you have done a complete restore. There are a lot of guides online on how to jailbreak, it really is not that hard. Get used to the phone first though. Get the feel see how you like it. To get full potential of the phone jailbreaking is the way to go, but at the same time I must advise you, an iPhone is worth a lot of money. Thoroughly research information on the iPhone and jailbreaking it. If you are going to jailbreak it, you might as well unlock it aswell. You'll find out how to do so when reading the online guides. It's not that hard, and its on route to jailbreaking anyways. Plus it raises the resale value if you ever do end up putting the phone up for sale to get a newer phone/model.

there are a couple of guides to make a iTunes account for free. once you get the account just go under the AppStore in your iphone and go under the free ones. tap Free then it will turn to install tap it again and it will ask for a password then it will show up on your home screen.

Jailbreaking does void your warranty if you take it in to the apple genius bar jailbroken. Doing a complete restore will erase any trace of the jailbreak software. apple does have ways of finding out if your iphone has been jailbroken but never really implements them since it would take some time to do a deep analysis of your iphone hardware and software.
