So I Jumped Over To The Dark Side

654 Views 15 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  iDeal
A week ago my Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe took a dump. I got to thinking it and my 6000+ was the main bottleneck in my system. I thought maybe I should try something new, maybe Intel? After a bit of reluctance I ended up going with a Gigabyte EP45 UD3P and a e8500.
WOW this thing is wicked, I don't know why I didn't go Intel sooner. A bit different than AMD overclocking but much more stable and reliable.

But to get to my question, I was curious on what you guys thought I should look into upgrading next?

I might hold out on the quad for a little bit, since I just bought this new setup a week ago. A quad will defiantly be in the future though.

I have been considering it. What are some decent drives to run RAID0 with? Im not sure what to look for when it comes to specs on HDs.

Uh, you have a nice system. No upgrades needed. Or is this a case of "must upgrade"?

Hmmm maybe. I wouldn't mind a little more space. I was thinking either a CM Stacker 832 or a CM Cosmos S. Any suggestions on what ones I should take a look at?

get another gtx260 screw the quad core unless you need it for certain applications or your real big in to benchmarking. sli gtx260's will play any game maxed out even crysis at 1920x1200 on all high settings no aa/af you will get around 35-50fps and that was with 192sp's.

I have noticed that the gtx260 has dropped about half in price since i picked one up. Thanks for the suggestion!

I think cases are more personal preference. Maybe take a look at the CM HAF case?

If you SLI'd the 260, then you may need to consider a new PSU.

But other than that, the only thing I can see is the storage. Everything else is already total pwnage.

Um, other than the fact that you wouldn't have an SLI motherboard, then sure GTX 260 SLI is a good idea.

no he doesnt, he'd be fine with the power supply he has. gtx260's only use like 178watts at full load.

Yeah, but I said he "may" need to consider a new one. Just in case you're curious now, the maximum wattage as stated by NVIDIA is 182W. Anyway, you may be right. But I have a feeling that having the 260 in SLI with the TX650 with this rig would be cutting it really close.

Thanks for the ideas!

So its mainly another GTX260 and a bigger power supply.

What would you guys recommend for a power supply that is less than $200?
I was under the impression that the P45 MB's were XFire and not SLI?

Can someone please confirm either way? As I have a GTS 8600 sitting in my old setup, and I could perhaps put it to some use.
