So what is happening in the world of Microprocessing in Russia?

So I have not heard of anything of Elbrus or what is going on with the company. I know I read about the Elbrus-PF that states:

Quote:
Microprocessor Elbrus-PF, projected 2011. 65 nm technology, 8 cores VLIW/EPIC processor. With the transition to 45 nm technology, this processor will have a clock frequency of 2 GHz, and a performance of 8 TFLOPS. This processor will be used to build a supercomputer with PFLOPS performance.
Wiki, but I cannot find much info on its development, or at that, much on Elbrus itself. I have gone to the main website, but not much info at the moment.

If nothing, then is that pretty much the end for microprocessing R&D in Russia? It would be cool to have fresh competition in the market for servers and supercomputers rather then the endless stream of Intel Xeon or AMD Opteron servers with thousands of processors.

So does anyone have any word or idea on anything coming out of Russia in terms of Microprocessing?

Here is a link to: Elbrus Website

Thanks.

Would be cool but it seems like a tall order for an upstart company to just join a battle that has been going on for decades now.

All companies start somewhere...

and it hasn't been decades if your talking AMD vs Intel ... AMD has only been around 13 years.

No, they've been around for 40.

Well, if this Elbrus processor comes out at expected date, then it could give a huge jumpstart to Russian Microprocessing. The thing they do need to do, is implement funds to advance their facilities. But apparently they already accumulated $20B in terms of financial aid to do so. So they may be currently re-tooling the company and the fabrication facilities to produce these new processors?

Would be cool.

Edit: And I cannot seem to find any benchmarks of the Elbrus 3M1 processor....
