So with all the old/new MMO's out there what is everyones take on the best of the main stream ones.
Example:
WoW
Axion
Eve online
Guildwars
Age of Conan
Etc....
I played both Wow and Conan from when they were first beta. Wow was good and all but got old so I stopped about a year ago. Age of Conan never really to live up to the hype and completely miss the target to me. So what's up with this Axion one and any other new ones.
Looking for decent content. Responsive pvp but with also good amount of focus on pve content. Not really looking for something that if you don't play every second of the day you will fall behind the power curve and pretty much be starting from scratch just to keep up with other players.
On a side note who besides me would love to see a Mafia based MMO that's orientated more for adults.
only mmo I ever tried was WoW pre burning crusade. It's like crack. Glad I stopped playing it, before I knew it I had spent close to 1,000 dollars on 2 unopened collector's editions of WoW and didn't even use them or anything, just sold them and moved on.
Not that many options out there for MMOs besides the main ones you already listed.
Aion is pretty good so far, if PvPvE is not your thing (Meaning you can get attacked by other players if you're in the Abyss or even outside the city due to "Rifts") than I would avoid this game, but it's a good game so far, not exactly the "World of Warcraft killer" but still decent
Guild Wars is a decent game too, although it gets pretty boring after you hit level 20, after that, it's all about PvP.

WoW: Played that from launch to Yoggy in Wrath. WoW PvE is powerfully weak and easy now, and the whole gear system has gotten far to bloated. Ok as a time waster when you're bored, but now not much more than that.
Aion: Awesome for the first 20 levels (out of 50) and then it's all rinse and repeat. Combat system is more repetitive than WoW's is, but the story is decent. I got bored with this around level 30.
Age of Conan: Great concept, and actually was well implemented - but ruined by the community that hyped it up. It's like CS with axes and boobs.
Guild Wars: Old, and as a result, a new player would find it hard to fully grasps the concepts and aspects that are piled onto each other with each expansion. Fun, but can be hard to really get into while learning it.
My advice:
Save your money, or at least spend it else where for games. I'd recommend Assassin's Creed 2 or Dragon Age: Origins above any of those even if the MMOs were free to play for a month.
I played Guildwars for over 3 years
there is no point in playing it anymore as the community has died.
The max level is 20 and easily reached and now everyone just sits there and socializes or goes after titles aka achievements so I got bored and stopped playing
Then I moved onto WoW Im currently playing WoW for arpx. a year now
The community is amazing but I cant get addicted to it as I play for a few months then stop playing for a few months and get back in.
Last is Aion I played it in beta Graphics are ***tastic gameplay is good and identical to WoW. Community obviously is not as big as WoW but its growing.
Cant really say much. I liked it though maybe I'll buy it in the near future if i get bored with wow but I dont really for see that.
Aion is a super grind fest to begin with. Really wish I hadn't bought it. After that I'm a WoW player because I haven't played anything else. I still play WoW albeit conservatively. My two bits.
Pretty decent graphics, excellent PVP (in fact, that's like 80% of the game).
PvE content is fun and rewarding.
Seriously, try it. Its also completely free if you stick in "Tier 1" of the game, and your level is capped at 10.
*also its not a grindfest. You can just run around and do oRvR (open Realm vs Realm, pretty much means an area you can just go pvp in) and level up. oRvR also is objective based with battlefield objectives, and starting at Tier 2, you can capture keeps. If you take over a keep there is a loot roll, and you get some pretty good stuff if you roll good. Other than that if you manage to capture an area completely you get buffs (nothing game shattering, but it helps)
Extremely unbalanced
Permadeath
GMs are bad
Someone who has spent literally years grinding in the school university can be outdone by someone who was lucky enough to get a lucky /roll.
Some builds are extremely gimped (like my Dominos/Burger King/No Exorcise spec)
Tech support is expensive unless you are in canada
The only fun thing about it is the sex minigame, which takes too much effort to unlock.
Does OP want length? Runescape is honestly the longest to max out of all MMOs. Not the prettiest graphics, interface, or community, but it's the longest. And the power curve is almost non-existant.
I wish there was a way to implement a - rep system that can't be exploited. If you're not here to offer your opinion to help the OP, why post at all?
The only MMO I've ever played is Age of Conan. I am not even a big pc gamer. I can tell you that most who actually play it now considers it the best mmo on the market. However it is not without flaws.
AOC is a great pve game. Funcom has devoted the last year (and the new expansion to come) to putting out a great rpg product.
After the director change, the game has changed from a pvp oriented game to pve. Thus FC has not done enough to foster the pvp side of things. In beginning open pvp areas, there is a huge gap with what you'll be able to fight, and the people you'll be up against. You will die, and you will die a lot.
Because of the pve boost, it has changed pvp balancing for the worst. The game has changed from the barbaric axe swinging fatality game to a WoW oriented easy to play caster game. For example, a melee combo that at launch took 5 steps to complete now only takes 2 steps to complete. The game has generally been dumbed down so more mainstream people will be able to pick it up faster. However that don't really matter on a pvp server b/c in the beginning most people rage quit from all the ganking.
