In order to gain the upper hand on Sony, Microsoft is apparently resorting to some unorthodox practices, like paying a lot of money to third-party publishers so that they won't show their PlayStation 4 games either on stage or at their actual booths.

I've talked to more people since then though and this isn't the usual jostling for publishers on stage that happens at E3. Microsoft is throwing BIG money around to reverse course on idea that they aren't a games console. The rumors are that PS4 versions of multiplats, by those who do take the money, won't be shown AT ALL. Not on stage and not on the show floor.

Sorry if repost, didn't see this yet. Probably not a good idea to trust all these images of "PS4 HAS NO GAMES THEYRE ALL ON XBONE!!!" until someone looks into this a little more.

Waw...Microsoft is really taking 359 steps backwards with the Xbox One. Not to mention dragging their name through the mud.

Not mentioning the damage done to Sony. Most people aren't and won't be aware of this if it's true.
Yes they were, back when there was a respectable person at the helm ... Bill Gates.

Ever since Gates left to be a humanitarian full time, Microsoft has pretty much lost all of their humanity.

Mid 90s Monopoly Microsoft did some sketchy stuff too . . .
Bill Gates may be a decent humanitarian now but when he was with Microsoft he was certainly a businessman first.

This is despicable and all, but pretty much status quo. Basically the "nVidia, the way it's meant to be played" but on a larger scale.

That is disgusting. They know they are losing so now it is time to flaunt the money card. AT LEAST, nVidia and AMD didn't bribe developers to not show their stuff on other platforms. All they did was that it showed its company logo ultimately in the intro cutscenes in the game and had some better optimization for the GPU's the sponsor company provides.

Microsoft is trying to do a shut out but they know that it isn't going to work on the intrigued buyers.

Ah, that explains it. Someone said they couldn't wait for for Xbox exclusives and one of themwas Bungies Destiny and I remembered thinking "I thought that was multi-platform". Anyway, while it is on the scummy side, I believe like others have said it's not exclusive to Microsft.

This is true, but it shows that it can happen and that Microsoft may have done it on a massive scale. Not only that, but they've corrupted an entire expo, turning it into a "pay to win" scheme. And even then, Microsoft didn't even win, they just massively limited the amount of damage they're receiving right now. But at the very least it shows you can go to E3, spend a ton of money, and make yourself look better while making your competitors look worse.

I have a large feeling why this is why Nintendo didn't even have a public announcement at E3 and only had a room with demos. Nintendo is smaller than Sony and there's no way they could even compete with a pay to win scheme.

As for comparison to PC and The Way It's Mean to Be Played or Gaming Evolved, I really don't think people see Gaming Evolved and go "well, I have an Nvidia, I guess I won't be playing this game unless I buy AMD!" or vice versa. Perhaps it means a more optimized experience (and sometimes it doesn't Far Cry 3), but I don't think there's a single person who thinks that a Gaming Evolved title won't run on Intel CPUs or Nvidia GPUs. In fact, I think it's quite the opposite where people turn to those two companies instead.

However I do expect that all of these poorly made pseudo-memes, psuedo-ads (psadememes??) are coming from astroturfing Microsoft marketing companies or whatever. They've already been busted on reddit for manipulation of the karma system and creating fake comments: http://www.sfgate.com/technology/businessinsider/article/Microsoft-Has-Hired-People-To-Make-Positive-4587677.php

I really hope this whole house of cards comes falling down on Microsoft, this is even worse than Apple. The Xbox One speech was a bunch of marketing buzzwords trying to tell me how I should think about a product, much like Apple does. But Microsoft has gone a step further by bribing and sending marketing agents out to pretend they are real people.

As far as I'm concerned Microsoft has worked themselves into a corner where you can't really trust anything about it that comes out of a community that has positive things to say about it, but it's nearly impossible to prove something like that.

I know its all rumour and hearsay, but I was already thinking they were paying/dealing with publishers to pretend like some games were Xbox exclusive. You know just be non committal about PS4 versions so that it seems like the Xbox is the only sure thing, but not actually say youre exclusive.

Kinda like Bethesda and Skyrim DLC where they would promote the 360 version but not say anything about the PC and PS3, but they never said they wouldnt do ports either. Of course everyone already knew they had timed exclusivity deals, so it was more for show.

I seem to remember at last E3.. there were multi-plat games advertised and shown on one particular system.

Yea, this doesn't seem like anything new. If anything paying the other companies to make something exclusives seems worse to me and that's been happening forever, while in this case they're just paying them not to shout that they're developing for the competing console, while still releasing on both...

that's nice, but can you please provide some links where sony is directly responsible for trying to pay off developers to not show their games which are also available for xbox360 just to make it look like they're only available for ps3?

"Microsoft paid publishers a big amount to stay hush about the other console."

or

"Microsoft paid publishers a BIG amount to stay hush about the other console."

Such a little difference in syntax can throw this statement off. All of this nonsense in this thread is due to "BIG." What if the rumor'd article was written without it? Or not in all caps? Or had the actual dollar amount, and to us, it actually wasn't that BIG at all. A couple thousand? A million? Millions? This is entirely baseless.

You're right. MS paid royally for the 360 to get the DLC first. And Bethesda spent almost a year getting the expansions to work on PS3.

I do wonder though, how much the association helps. If I see the Skyrim commercial with Xbox at the end, if it actually makes me more likely to buy it on Xbox. I'm sure someone's researched this somewhere, especially since every gaming company pays for some variant.

What this says is MS is paying companies to NOT show off their games on other platforms.

It's like Nvidia paying Sony not to mention AMD's name when talking about the PS4. It's very abnormal.

There's probably more to this than just bribery. MS and these publishers may be in the works of an exclusivity deal, and MS is just asking them to not announce the possibility of a PS4 version yet.

At this point I think if I put up a rumor saying Microsoft devours puppies then uses their left over blood to infect orphans with HIV people would be like "I KNEW IT!!!"
