(solved) 360 wireless connection problem

1002 Views 9 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  crazyace63
Ok I just upgraded my wireless network to a higher rated one. My xbox says that it found my wireless connection but the channel and the IP addy are way wrong for what my wireless is setup as. I also see that when I scan for networks it says that the ssid is duplicate and I can't fix it. Anyone have any Ideas on what I would need to do to fix this.

I know I need to go hardwired and I want to but funds are tight right now since My dad and I just lost our jobs. We have tried a second gateway and that made things worse. The first router that we had the thing kept saying that the MTU settings were too low and my router was set at 1500 so I know it wasn't that. If anyone has any help on this please let me know I am getting frusterated at this system and want to go back to the slower connection since that one worked fine. I have contacted Verizon and Xbox and neither of them can help me.

No updates anyone can think of? Well I got it too work but it won't work with the 360 wireless adapter. I hooked up my old original xbox wireless adapter and it works like it did when we first upgraded the gateway. I am confused at how an old wireless adapter would work but the newer better (I thought) one won't.

I did just see the new N adaptor that one looks sweet. I was also looking at these from Actontec.

Has anyone tried these hookups so I don't have to run a line down the wall from upstairs?
I believe this is the Gateway we have upstairs. We are on our second one of the same type.

I think the Actiontec wall plugs will probably work great if they do what they say. I can run the 4 port hub in my room and have all my DSL based equipment work without going wireless. I have a tivo, Xbox 360, PS3, and a Wii that will all be hardwired throught the wall socket.
$100 bucks? Just run the wire, especially for gaming on a console. As far as the wireless, the SSID is the name of your network which is usually set to generic linksys etc. If someone near by has the same router and left their SSID generic, it will interfere. Make sure you go into your router and give your network a specific name like JohnHome etc. Also, make sure you go into your xbox360, my xbox/system/network, and set everything to automatic and test the connection. This should clear out any previous settings and allow you to connect wirelessly.
We set ours up with a custom wouter name and wep key. Also I go into the Network settings of the xbox and when I set everything to auto it gives me a IP that is nowhere near the IP that the router is putting out. Most will be 192.168.1.xxx and I get 164.254.1.xxx I can't remember the whole thing. I even tried doing it manually and it won't even attempt to connect.

I did notice with the adaptor that works connected to my xbox that if I turn off the NAT it makes it so I can't connect to the internet with the 360.

Meaning I get this picture.

Alright, I'm assuming that the xbox wireless adapter's light is solid green, double check that. Also, try changing the wifi settings making sure UPnP is enabled, switch to WPA2 personal (more secure) and that DCHP is enabled. Power cycle the router, wait till its back up and power cycle the xbox360. Routers can be a bit finicky sometimes and a power cycle is the best way to clear things up.

I will try that If I get some time tomorrow. I am getting pretty tired now. So messing with settings while falling asleep is not a good thing. Thanks for all the input and if I have any other problems I will hit you up or just post in here again. If those settings work for me than I am gonna dominate on MW2 and Forza3. If you wanna game send me a request on live. My GT is in my sig.
Finally works and have been whooping butt on MW2 for the last week. Thanks for all the help and I will be back if I need some more.
