Try to remember what program have you installed prior to the explorer crashes. Go to Run, type "msconfig" without quotes, hit enter, click on the Startup tab. In there, untick one program then reboot and try to reproduce the problem, one program at a time, until it stops crashing, then you'll know which program you recently installed is causing the crashes. If that doesn't resolve it, try running your system all at stock settings, no overclocks at all. Next, you can try System Startup Repair by using your genuine Vista Installation DVD. If that doesn't fix it still, try SFC command:

Start (Vista Orb) => All Programs => Accessories => right-click on CMD.exe to bring up elevated Command Prompt, type this:
sfc /scannow
Hit enter and let it run.

I ran Ccleaner and the registry fixer as well. I rebooted into safe mode and now the cp doesnot crash. I have not installed any programs since some time. Just some windows updates.
