You need to mute the microphone under recording devices, not in your playback mixer. Try going to control panel and sounds, and then to recording devices and mute it there. if that does not work, try looking in your ASUS applet and re-select it there and mute it.

I fixed it by turning off mic boost..makes my mic completely silent
