For starters i was looking at the Intel Core i5-650, saw its a good price for a quad-core. What do you guys think about it? Other cpu's are welcome as well.

What would you guys think would go good with a i5 650 and a budget of under 800$

also what p55 motherboard would be good for this cpu i would like to overclock if possible

i want to upgrade my current computer.
excluding the following:
optical drives, hard disk, case, power supply.

i would like to go with a ATI graphics card preferably with a XFX 5770 1gig or something similar to that.

i want my computer to play all the latest games at medium-high
my computer is used basically for media/games.

thank you.

depending how flexible your budget, I've found that the Asus P7P55D Pro board paired up with G.Skill Ripjaws 1600mhz 4GB are really successful when overclocking the i5 750 chip.

I have no experience on the i5 650 though.

As for your GPU, it might be a good idea to wait and see the performance of Fermi before you jump on a 5770. If the performance of fermi really stacks up to what Nvidia makes it to be, it might be worth saving a few extra pennies for a Fermi.

I think you are referring to the i5 750, which is indeed a quad core.

As far as the build goes against the $800 budget, there's no doubt you can pull it off. I built a i5 750 / 5770 rig with the parts you excluding for around $620 so it is definitely doable.
