So I have usually been a subscriber to the school of thought that more is better....I was having trouble with my core temps, even though I have an amazing cpu cooler...well...I looked down at my tank of a tai chi case, and realized I got a little extreme with the extra 120 fans......I just removed three of them, and my vcore temps at load are way down...down around [email protected] load with 13 multiplier running two instances of prime 95...that makes more sense...

If you took out 3 120mm fans how many did you have to begin with? o_O

yea....I had 7 120 mm fans....two intake on front, two on side, one underneath, and one on the other side....only with one exhaust...dont ask me....I dont know why i had it set up that idiotic way...right now, I am down to two 120 mm cooling intake and one 120 mm exhaust plus the psu exhaust...seems to run cooler...also considering the tai chi isbuilt of extrusion aluminum and has those fins plus ample passive cooling.

Could you fly it around the desk with the 7 fans? ^_^

Yeah I limit myself to 3 fans. Not only because of noise but power concerns.

I guess you've got much better air-flow now. Good move!
Although 7 case fans may seem excessive, it's all about flow. CFM needs to be equal entering and leaving your case. I buy my case fans in pairs because all fans don't have the same CFM rating just because they are the same size. You also have to include the CFM of your PSU as it is an exhaust fan. CPU and chip fans don't count as they just blow air across the chips (Although some designs can help direct your flow).

How the air flows is important. For example, I run one 120mm / 100 CFM fan in the bottom front part of my case drawing cool air in and an identical one on the high back part drawing air out. Perfect right?....what about the PSU fan? Flow is not equal yet although it's better to have more on the exhaust side than the intake as positive pressure can cause heat to build up inside your case.

So I have a side window fan that is the same CFM as my PSU as an intake fan. Now I have equal flow. You can try different locations too as some components may need more air flow for cooling. A Side fans can help supply cool air to the CPU fan, and a top exhaust fan can help since heat rises.

That's why there are so many case designs and finding one that allows good air flow is important if your going to use air for cooling.
