sound cracks and pops in Win7 64bit

hello,

i switched to Win7 ultimate 64bit and my sound is all crackly and stuff

i installed win7 64 drivers from asus it does nothing
i uninstalled the asus drivers and let windows pick the drivers - same thing happens

i uninstalled the windows drivers and installed the Realtek HD drivers right from their site - still the same thing

the only thing that has helped was turning my sound quality down to 16bit 44100Hz and it still cracks but not as bad

before this i was using vista 32 and had 0 problems. whats the problem, asus claims win7 64 should work since the supply win7 64 drivers on their website. this is my only complaint with Win7

any suggestions?

There is definitely a problem with Windows 7 and sound crackling. It happens occasionally with me, but nothing compared to what you're mentioning. You shouldn't have to lower the quality that much, I'm fine with 24bit 48000Hz and just tried 96000Hz and it seems to work fine too. You really did all the steps I would go through, are all your drivers installed properly?

its bad on some sounds and ok on others, but theres always a crack in all songs.

in vista i had the quality on 24bit 48000Hz and it was fine, however on Win7 those settings are not listenable.

i believe they are installed correctly, is there a way to do it wrong?

I'm thinking especially about chipset drivers:

how do i know which chipset i have?

is this it?

Trust me on that one

Same chipset as my laptop! The Intel installer will automatically detect which one you have, we have Intel 4 Series chipsets! All you have to do is click download, don't worry about the compatible chipsets list.

Wow that is weird, that isn't even a laptop chipset I think. Your chipset can either be an AMD one or an Intel one for consumer laptops, show me a CPU-z screen instead. But anyhow, if your chipset isn't supported, nothing will install.

Wow my bad, well I was unaware they made chipsets for laptops. Well you'll have to go on their website, and make sure that you grab the latest drivers from there. Sorry, I don't have a lot of time on my hands right now, I would have looked up the chipset from the beginning otherwise!
