In relation to Laptops, for the most part these drivers are provided by the manufacturer. If they don't offer the driver for the XP on their website, then you're out of luck, since really it's supposed to be a Vista machine and those are the drivers they will provide. Many friends of mine decided to do the same thing (go to XP, on their Vista machines) but were forced to go back to Vista precisely due to no XP support for the Vista Laptops.

Why make drivers for the laptop for XP if it's Vista based?

Well I said hell with it, and downloaded any Altec Lansing drivers out there, and well I'll be damned it worked!

Yea there are certain ways to get things to work but most of the time the drivers are impossible to find. Good job, have fun.
