I hear tell the new 28nm cards are due out Q2 of 2011, and I'm just itching to get a 6950. I'd like a new card by mid-May.

Should I wait for the new lineup? I don't want the 6950 reference cards to disappear.

Lol, who told you Q2? Its already Q2 and i have not heard anything. The fact that HD 6990 came out last month get ready to wait at leas 9-12 month for new gen and 28nm is not even ready.

According the the article below the earliest these are slated to come out is during the second half of the year which means Q3 or Q4. Kepler by Nvidia is also supposed to come out around the same time. If you are really itching to get the 6950 I would get it because these slated release windows are always subject to change and even if they happen to be accurate it is going to be a matter of months. You have to ask yourself....is the "itch" going to be too much to bear?

THIS is what I'm saying. I can't imagine they'd have the process ready that quickly, but I didn't want to up and buy a $300 card and then a month later have it become outdated.

Back in Nov/Dec timeframe they were saying Q2, but I JUST found this saying June or July, 20% boost in performance.

They could come in June/July if its only 20% boost in performance but there has been no talk about 7k series.

Well the 6xxx series STILL hasnt been fully realeased!Budget cards like 6790 are yet to come out.. and TSMCs 28nm process is untested. There will be a significant testing period for the manufacturing process EVEN if amd already has the desgn and specs ready. So, unless theres official news about release dates, Id go for 6950

In old game like DX9 but in most games HD 6950 pulls ahead.
