Have 2 OCZ Vertex Turbos for RAID 0 in new build.
Any settings, precautions or general insight of what
problems I might run into would be appreciated.

Yeah get windows 7, you WILL want trim support

Yes windows 7 is a must for SSD drives, as it supports TRIM! please dont defrag any ssd as it reduces lifespan and the flash cells..

Disable auto defrag and hibernate. Disabling hibernate will free up the same amount of RAM you have. So if you have 4 gigs of RAM, disabling hibernate will free up 4 gigs on the SSD.

Since you are going to use them in Raid0 you will need to flash them to use garbage collect rather than trim. W7 can't pass the trim command through a raid setup.

Thanks for the helpful assistance. Especially having posted it in wrong location.
I also recommend following the tweaks in this thread to help minimize performance degradation: http://www.gskill.us/forum/showthread.php?t=913

Oh, and I also most definitely recommend becoming an active member of OCZ's message board. I'm an active member of G.SKILL's message board (but I stay in the SSD forum), and it has been a tremendous help - even for the the little things.

You will not get TRIM when in Raid 0 even in Windows 7. It simply isn't supported yet, and there is no ETA.

Garbage Collect? Never heard of this... do you have more information? I suppose this isn't for Intel SSDs.

Isn't Hibernate disabled by default on Win7? It is on mine.. i've just been curious about this. It shows "Never" in power saving, but I wonder if it's still stealing 4GB of space.

Many of the tweaks listed here are automatically done by Windows 7. If it detects your SSD is fast enough, it will turn off Readyboot, Superfetch, Prefetch, Defrag, etc (they will still run on any other hard drive in the system).

You should not disable the page file, it causes issues with some applications - Dawn of War 2 & Photoshop are popular examples. Just leave it on your SSD. Microsoft has stated that it will not lower your SSD's lifetime by a noticable amount. It also seems much slower with it disabled. SSDs are excellent at using the page file.

If you are really paranoid the absolute minimum I would do is move the page file over to a mechanical hard drive... but it's much faster on the SSD.

This is very true. There's a solution for it, but I can't remember the name of it.

Background Garbage Collection is some proprietary feature of OCZ that is now supposed to be implemented in the latest Indilinx Barefoot firmware 1819, except that the G.SKILL Falcon reportedly doesn't have it.

Yeah, I've never had Hibernation enabled by default - not even in XP.

But for some more tweaking tips, I once again recommend this thread over on G.SKILL's message board:

The link for the ocz tweaks and the gskill are very good, i did a combination of both tweaks. To raid your vertex this the guide i used.

The garbage collection as of now is still for OCZ idilinx SSD, even the supertalent that also works closely with idilinx does not have the garbage colletion on the 1819 firmware.
