Hello everyone.

I was wondering if all SSDs (or most of them) are standardized in terms of height? I would like to purchase an SSD for a laptop at work and figured it couldn't hurt to ask. They usually vary with disk drives for sizes greater than 750GB.

Thanks.

I should be good. I just wanted to make sure I got the right one. I know the heights (mm's) are a little different with the disk ones and I wanted to make sure I didn't have a surprise when I got it lol! I wasn't getting a terribly large one; an 80GB SSD would be great.

+Reps for you guys!

You guys say that all ssd's are 2.5 or 1.8, but the Vertex 2 comes in 3.5" and their Ibis is also 3.5"

Just thought I'd be a smartass and say that

I can go $2-$2.25 per GB. I need at least 80 GB, but nothing absurd. I was looking at the OCZ ones as some on newegg can be had for $2/GB.

I should note this isn't for me but for someone at the office. Her HDD has been slowing down and I just replaced her laptop for another of the same model. This is kinda a reward for putting up with it for this long lol!

Auch that's sweet of you!

There's a fair bit in your price range, but if you want to get the most for your money and have a bit of change, you might want to chuck a Kingston SSD V+ series in there

Ya that vertex2 is pretty nice
what would you be doing with it pretty much i mean if you have two drive bays in the laptop get a smaller one like 60 gigs and have the second hard drive be disk for everything else like your programs you know your dont use that much ( scan software cleaning tools, and other small things also movies and such of course) while main will be os and heavily used porgrams(simple probally already knew that but just putting it there)

Thanks guys! Yeah, essentially her other laptop was dying and they put Windows 7 on it with the hope that it would solve the slowdown issues, but it didn't. She dealt with it for like 4 months until the very end when the problem became apparent: the cooling fan died. Thankfully I had another working laptop of the same model number and specs in my office and swapping hard drives worked perfectly as Windows 7 didn't complain. Now to do the HDD as it is almost 4 years old and with cooling being at an all time low for so long, it needs to be replaced.

I will check out the Intel ones - I didn't know the price dropped that low on those. I remember the Intel ones being really good!

Yup yup. Now to see if I can get one too....... but I'm ok with what I have. I have 3 running computers in my office, 1 PC and 2 Macs. If anything, I can multitask more than she can on her laptop
