STALKER Clear Sky

I loved SoC to death, but I have heard mixed reviews about Clear Sky. I want to get it, and at this point the only place I can find it is steam, but it has drm with a 5 machine activation limit!?!

Should I just skip it and pick of Call of the Pripyat when it comes out next year, or will I be missing out big time by not grabbing clear sky?

Get it. Big fan of the series and have played all three. For better or worse, get it.

The Online Deal section of the forum recently had a thread for the CD version of Clear Sky for 5$.

The game was a bit buggy, but recent patches fixed most problems. I played CS first, then SoC since it came with my 4870. I prefer CS over SoC. Was more polished. Faction Wars are a bit broken still, some times you have to hold a spot while a squad gets to you but you're stuck waiting because the AI hasn't told them to move.

Nice, those pics looks awesome. I just bought the super cheap disk copy, so rep all around. Should be here in a week or so!
Can you repair stuff in Clear Sky? I always got bummed when I went thru a set of sick armor in one mission and had to vendor it.
You will like it if you liked the first. I remember I preordered CS and I was SOOOO excited for it to come. Definitely not the bets game ever to some, but I love ever Stalker game equally for better and worse. I am a Stalker fanboy, I wont lie.

YES! But not yourself. :/

Call of Pripyat is awesome, like it better than Clear Sky, but then again I can max everything except AA and get 50FPS max on it, when Clear Sky I get around 30 with semi-moderate graphics settings
Multiplayer on CoP is awesome as well.

Yes, the guys who can upgrade your weapons can also repair your armor. Not sure if they can repair it if the condition drops to zero though.

They can with weapons, not sure on armour that's completely worn. I had a Vintorez that I picked up, condition was right at the bottom of the bar but I could still repair it. Just cost quite a lot.

CS is worth getting, grab a few mods aswell and it looks fantastic. Faction wars can be fun but they can get annoying when the AI wants your help every few mins. Fortunately that doesn't happen too often. There was also a bug that whenever you changed area or got a guide to take you somewhere you got a blowout - I just went back to an earlier save and that seemed to fix the problem. FPS Banana has some nice gun skins and filefront will have a lot of other good ones. Good new scopes on there too.

I loved the first STALKER..... but couldn't get on with clear sky (felt something was missing) although it was a pain with the weapon accuracy, after installing the mod it improved it a little, but it was not the same and still have not finished it. I have been eagerly waiting for 'Call of Pripyat' I hope it is as good as it looks.
Stalker:CS is great. There's a float32 mod for it that improves DX10 performance by 20%, a faction commander mod which give you much more control over the faction wars and also allows you to join factions like monolith, army.

None of series come (Yes I've played CoP) close to SoC (with and without mods) yet.
It's very good. If you love SoC, you should at least like CS.

I think it's critical that you plac SoC first, for a whole host of reasons. Most importantly, SoC will be considerably more frightening if you haven't played CS first. The way that SoC introduces all the scarier critters in the game is just done a whole lot better, they're a lot more tension-filled environments. And they're the same scary critters as CS has, but CS totally squanders their introductions by having them show up very randomly (except the controller, which is fairly well-done). So if you've already played CS you'll not find SoC nearly as freaky/scary in those parts.

Also if you do CS first you're likely to find the lack of certain features (like repairs) to be frustrating, which you'd not care so much about if you didn't play CS first. This being said, there's a lot more good armor to be stumbled across in SoC, so in reality it offsets this potential downside pretty well. In fact, the Complete 2009 mod adds repairs to SoC, and personally I think it actually detracts from the experience overall by sort-of removing a key strategic element.

Anyways, like I say CS is a cool game ... it lacks a certain magic and mystery that SoC had, mainly because it's pretty much all outdoors and the one 'lab' like level is really short. It just doesn't quite have the same scary atmosphere. But this is offset somewhat by some other improvements to gameplay. It's also a little disappointing how long it takes before you get to an actual 'new area' in the game that's at all interesting, this being the Red Forest (same Red Forest as SoC, but a totally different part of it). The Swamps are at the beginning, and they're new, and huge, but ... not really all that cool. Easily half the SC map is the same area as you play in SoC (Cordon, Garbage, Agroprom, Dark Valley, Yantar, and Army Warehouses) with a few minor changes like some areas are slightly expanded and of course the anomalies are all different.

These things being said, the fact that's it's just fun to be back in the Zone on a different adventure, one that's totally decent afa content/story goes.

Agreed. SHoC with the Oblivion Lost mod is the best (which I modded with shaders from Complete 2009 to make lighting more awesome, and physics from Complete 2009 so you can shoot out lights)

Any one whose played Call of Pripyat know if it has more of those awesome lab sequences?
